Laughter - Thankful Thursdays
Sometimes I get in the habit of not being able to see the forest for the trees. Today is one of those days.
I woke up with a screaming headache and was instantly grateful that the Little Imp was at Montessori today. Then I remembered that the hubby had an ass-crack-o'-the-morning early meeting and wouldn't be able to drop her off, as is the norm for the days she goes to school. Crap! That meant I had to lug my big behemoth of an ass out of bed and bundle up and take the Little Imp in myself. My head hurt so bad I didn't even brush my hair. I just put on a baseball cap, put a long coat on over my jammies, slid into my Uggs and took her to school.
My head hurt so bad that when I walked outside and was assaulted by the brisk 19F morning and saw the big huge ball of sunshine overhead, it was like being stabbed in the eyes. OMG the pain! Is the sky normally so friggin blue? And does the sun have to shine quite so brightly? Even watching the Little Imp's blonde curls bounce as she skipped along the sidewalk into the school, made my noggin ache. I opened the door to her classroom, and tiny Miss Jenna, one of her BFF's (do almost 3 year old's even have BFF's? Hell, IDK!), came running towards us, yelling at the top of her toddler-size lungs, "OH LOOK IT'S LITTLE IMP AND HER MOMMY HER MOMMY HER MOMMY!!!" I wanted to take both of her bright shiny blonde pig tails and yank them as hard as I could. Her tiny little voice sounded like a million cymbals going off in my head.
After dropping off Miss Imp I came back home, swallowed about half a bottle of Tylenol Extra Strength gelcaps; washed down by the most wonderful icy cold Diet Coke I have ever had, and crawled back into bed, barely remembering to take my coat and boots off, but not before threatening the dog -- if he DARED to even utter the tiniest of barks, I would duct tape his yapper shut! That was around 7AM. I woke up at 11AM and then again at 1PM with the pain down to a dull roar and the dog doing his quiet version of the canine pee-pee dance. Bless his furry little heart. Something about the way he looked at me as I let him out, and how he turned and gave me a couple of doggie smooches before he bounded out into the back garden to take care of business, made me smile. I love this big, goofy over grown half-poodle half-golden retriever. I'm thankful for the days he doesn't barf and make my life a living hell all the laughter he provides and even though I hate them, the occasional puppy kisses too!
I'm thankful for Tylenol and Diet Coke! Ice cold Diet Coke to be exact. I know it's bad for me, but when you've gotta have it, YOU'VE GOTTA HAVE IT!
When I was finally feeling a little more human and less like a huge walking headache, (getting to the "feeling human" point included a hot shower, and another one of those fantastic Diet Cokes!), I finally got around to checking my email. I have been feeling a tad melancholy about lots of little things lately. My brilliant sister in law Jill, over in the UK, must have been sensing I needed a laugh, because there in my email were several amusing anecdotes and in the midst of all the laughs, were the following:

Under normal circumstances I dislike email forwards, but Jill has a knack of knowing what's going to make me giggle, and today, these were sorely needed, and appreciated. I'm thankful for a sister in law with such great timing!
And it wouldn't be a Thankful Thursday post without mentioning how incredibly grateful I am for my hubby, who went out into a bone-chilling cold to get me some cream of rice and more diet coke; the only two things that sounded good and not like they were going to make me barf. He and the Little Imp sang to me tonight and and gave me extra hugs and kisses and best of all, made me laugh -- something I don't really do much of lately.
Megawatt will be home tomorrow for two days and I'm sure there will be more laughter. Oh, she's got a new boyfriend. Alas, it's not Joe. It's Kevin. If you go back to this post, then scroll down through the pics, there's one that's call "The Two Kevins." He's the taller of the two blokes, in the white t-shirt. Megawatt also made me promise that my once weekly "goal outing" this week would be to go with her to the midnight showing of Twilight on Thursday (that would be TONIGHT!) night.
I've been so wrapped up lately in myself, my internal and external pain, that I've forgotten to laugh. And it turns out, I didn't have to go very far after all to find it. It turns out, the forest is right here, amongst the trees!
Be sure and head over to KD's place, A Bit Squirrelly, and check out what everyone else is thankful for this week!
T-minus one week and counting until Turkey Day! The Ultimate Thankful Thursday!

That was funny! Thanks.
I hope youre feeling better. :)

OMG. Thanks for the funny pictures!
Love the leash comment. Obviously the kid stealing a sip never read Debs splooge post. (http://notnani.blogspot.com/2008/11/humming-bobo-aka-bob-that-head.html)
Touring Pikachus vagina is wrong on so many levels!
Better stop by my blog again before you try the Wedding Soup. I have an update.

Jen - We couldnt figure out WTF was in that picture. We even zoomed it to 500% and the best guess we could come up with was one of those hairless dogs walking on its hind legs, which is pretty creepy on its own!
As far as the movie...Good Lord I just hope I dont freeze to death waiting in line and then fall asleep in the cinema.

Lucky Me - Yeah, the Pikachu thing is funny, but so VERY WRONG! But still hilarious!

Yet another fantastic witty post!
I hope you are feeling better. Come on over and see my THankful Thursday!

Linda - In this part of Maine the only thing that goes on sale in advance are lobster pots and parkas! *lol* Actually, I think if we went down to one of the stadim (meaning, COMFORTABLE!) cinemas closer to Portland we might have been able to get advance tickets. Heck, I might see if we still can. Although its an extra 40 miles out of the way, I might just do that. Oh, who am I kidding. Theyll be sold out.
Well Im gonna try anyhow.
Allison - thanks so much! Im glad Im feeling better to. I dont think I could have done a migraine and an almost 3 year old at the same time! *lol* BTW, I loved your photos today. Just gorgeous!

Kevin? I was really rooting for Joe...
Cant wait to hear about Twilight!!
Posted by: big hair envy | Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 11:47 AM
OMG I was able to get tickets for Twilight! Of course, we have to drive 47 miles south, and be there early! As in EARLY! But I was shocked I was still able to get tickets!!! Go me! I suppose that it could have something to do with the fact that its only going to be 13F tonight and not a lot of people want to stand around in cold weather, waiting to see THE vampire movie of the year!
Yeah well, I promised Megawatt wed do this, and dammit, were doing it! Now, wheres my Valium and Xanax?

OMG I am SO jealous that you are going to the midnight showing. Yet another reason I hate living on the opposite coast from you! I would totally invite myself to join you two!
Those posters about made me pee my pants. Seriously. The ninjas one is my fav. Thanks SO much for joining in on Thankful Thursdays!!!
xoxo

The Fear pic sent me over the ledge, but Pikachu totally did me in. I was laughing so hard I was crying, snorting (I just cant help it) and wheezing (wtf? I dont smoke or have asthma!). AT WORK. Totally needed, though. Thank you so much, lmao (still).

Posted by: Linda | Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 03:27 PM
Auds, I am so glad that the emails were able to make you smile. Judging from some of the comments a few other people enjoyed them too.
Needless to say I get so many more funnies snet to mew than I can possible forward on. I only hope the few I send you never cause offence and only make you smile or laugh. Love as always. Jilly

Hey, if we don't have laughter some days, we've got nothing at all. We are two-thirds the way through NaBloPoMo today. Only 10 more posts to go!

I love this post. I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time right now, but you do such a good job here of finding the forest that I really admire you. (Also, some of those posters are hilarious.) I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family. Sending hugs.

I'm pretty sure that swallowing half a bottle of tylonel extra strength gelcaps is unhealthy...just to let you know, but i'm sure you're aware of this.
also (this is completely off topic) i was wondering what time I should show up for thanksgiving, since that is right around the corner.
