Gee! Why hasn't Auds posted today?
Why hasn't she gotten off her butt and posted an update on her Mommily entry (Actually, I just now posted the update!)?
Why hasn't she stared answering all those wonderful questions you all put so much thought into?
Where are all the pictures from the holidays? From kidnapping Paul? From Curry and Marmite Night? From New Years Eve?
One word...
Facebook!
I first started using Facebook as a means to keep up on what was going on with my 20th high school reunion and to stay in touch with the few stray friends I'd managed to reconnect with, from school. For the most part, it was pretty hit and miss with Facebook; mostly miss. I could take it or leave it. The only time I'd log on was if I'd received an email letting me know that someone had sent me a message, and even then, I wasn't always so great about responding to those messages.
But then something strange happened. Megawatt added me as a friend, her friends started adding me, other writers and bloggers started adding me and before you know it, I had a whole pile of "friends" on Facebook -- some leaving me messages, sending me drinks, hugs, or get this...some of them were even POKING me! WTF is up with that? Then I started getting "pieces of flair." Again I say WTF?
It wasn't long before I was sending pokes back to those who poked me in the first place. And dear God, the flair. Someone stop me because those little buttons are addictive as hell, especially the ones with Jasper from Twilight. Ya'll can have Edward Cullen. I'm all about my Jasper flair.
Do you hear this? I'm talking about virtual flair on a stinkin website!
Facebook I curse you!
Where will this end?
I am now suffering from a chronic condition known as "PathWords Wrist." It's a rather grave medical condition and quite painful to boot.
I have also discovered that regardless of where I am, stopped at a stop sign, or reading the headlines on CNN, that I'm sitting there taking words apart and making other words out of them, trying to get the most points with the biggest word. I see word honeycombs wherever I go.
Facebook, I curse you!
We can't leave out the vocabulary game from hell!
I really try and avoid playing Scrabble because I end up yelling and screaming at the computer, swearing and wanting to throw, whatever is nearest to me, across the room. At least if I were playing the REAL game, I wouldn't have some cheeky computer telling me that "toadlicker" isn't a word found in the dictionary! I'm quite certain it is a word, even if Mr. Webster hasn't gotten off his butt and added it to his book of words! In worst case scenarios involving a real game of Scrabble...if I get pissed off enough, I can always lob letter tiles across the table at my opponents, because we all know that "absquatulate" isn't a real word. Oh, what's that you say? It is? Well, tell me the last time you heard someone saying it at the grocery store? Yeah, you can't, can you? I mean come on, I'm a logoleptic but sheesh, even I wouldn't be caught dead saying "absquatulate"! If I did, people would accuse me of being acataleptic.
So, um yeah...Facebook is to blame for my absence. I can't be bothered to put together an interesting post right now because I'm getting another invite to attempt to beat someone's high score at PathWords. Oh and look, someone just uploaded new photos and I can't forget about confirming that new friend request...
I really must be going now. I need to update my Facebook status and let the entire world know that I just stepped on a Lego, barefoot, and it made me cry.

be careful, those sites are addicting. are you on myspace? i like facebook better b/c it is easier to stalk people. :) tells you everything everyone is doing!

Ah-see I cant get used to facebook, I started out w/myspace so the whole facebook thing confuses me.
Posted by: Spoiled Mommy | Monday, January 05, 2009 at 07:41 AM
Yep, Facebook is addictive FOR SURE. I joined two years ago when it first started and no one was using it, and I'm STILL addicted to it. Sigh. All those lost hours of potential productivity, lol . . .

I've heard the key to recovering from those dangerous Lego accidents is to sit down and put your foot up.
Maybe in front of the computer??
;)

HA! I was just thinking this same thing! I hadn't posted in days, where was I ...FACEBOOK!
Between, blogging, facebook, and twitter, Twitter has lost. I just can't keep up with everything, I have kids to care for....OH Crap, where are the kids?!

I never comment on blogs I haunt - but could not resist stopping by to say, I hear ya! That place is evil evil, yet I keep returning, because by darn I need to move up that Pathwords ladder and beat my high score!
Posted by: Andi | Monday, January 05, 2009 at 09:14 AM
hahaa!! so, so true. did you ever use myspace (i use past tense b/c it seems like people are moving from myspace to facebook)? no? you just saved 2 years of your life.
also, if you think pathwords is fun, stay away from wordtwist. then you'll have wordtwist wrist. it's not fun. believe me.

My husband calls it the black hole. hehe I completely understand! By the way, where did you find that scrabble game? :)

Omigosh, I've TOTALLY gotten sucked into Facebook these past few weeks, too! I reconnected with a guy I haven't seen in years, and am now seriously giddy at the thought of our new found "friendship." I used to loathe FB, but gotta say, now I LOVE it!
Posted by: mommypie | Monday, January 05, 2009 at 11:22 AM
I think I'm the only person on the planet that doesn't 'get it'. Maybe that's a good thing?
Posted by: Maria | Monday, January 05, 2009 at 11:38 AM
Don't worry, I am addicted to FB, too!
Happy New Year!

so true
Oh, and by the way, you'll never beat my high score on pathwords :)
Posted by: Paul | Monday, January 05, 2009 at 12:37 PM
I, too, curse facebook. Pathwords is my nemesis, my ultimate time suck. What's your best score?
Posted by: Headless Mom | Monday, January 05, 2009 at 12:58 PM
Oh too funny! Great non-post:)

OMG! I have been getting SO much pressure lately to set up a FB site. I have to politely decline, because I already waste too much freakin' time on Blogger!! If I were independently wealthy, I'd NEVER leave the computer:/ Unfortunately, I am not, and must work if I want to eat. Then again...I could stand to miss a few meals....

Girl, don't be telling me about facebook...I don't have time to get hooked on anything else...first it was myspace, then canceled that, then my blog, then my blog and everyone elses blogs daily, and now twitter on top of that....Oh and the 3 little kids, hubby, and house...I need to prohibit myself from checking facebook out! It sounds too fun, which means I would get hooked on that TOO!

I just started the facebook for reunion purposes as well. I find myspace much easier to navigate, plus women are much more likely to call each other skanks there. AWESOME!

I have a button on my facebook flair board that says "I had a life, but facebook ate it!" Thanks for my Saucy visit. Come by anytime
Posted by: Lo | Monday, January 05, 2009 at 10:58 PM
I am poking you straight away!
Posted by: 3boys1mommy | Monday, January 05, 2009 at 11:47 PM
Ah, yup. Just joined last month and it's been the beginning of the end for me. So far, I've almost always said "no" to all the side offers to play games and send drinks and god knows what else. Some days I think I"m going to pull the plug, but then I get a nice message or a picture and then I'm lured back in again.
Posted by: MomZombie | Tuesday, January 06, 2009 at 11:23 AM
Go ahead. Beat my score in Pathwords. I dare ya! LOL. Addictive much? YES!!! Oh, don't check out Wordscraper. Just don't.
Posted by: Marlene | Tuesday, January 06, 2009 at 11:23 AM
I had an idea. I posted it on my blog. Do you like it?
Posted by: Laura | Tuesday, January 06, 2009 at 11:23 AM
Facebook definitely can do you in, just like blogging can. Gosh, sometimes it's amazing that I have a life, since my virtual one seems to be so big.

I joined facebook in 2005 when I first went to college. It was kind of a nice easy way to meet people that I went to school with and lived near. Now I don't go on it much unless I get a message from it saying that someone sent me a message or something. Last year I actually deleted all of the extra applications because I felt like I was wasting too much time on there. Now without those I definately don't waste too much time there.

Oh this is my life too. I have Facebook on my Blackberry too so the fun never stops. My husband is cursing me for it. I had to stop Pathwords lest I lose my husband.
Posted by: ilinap | Tuesday, January 06, 2009 at 03:23 PM
Thanks for visiting a few days ago. Facebook is so addicting! I won't even suggest other fun games and things you can do on there. : )
Posted by: Becky | Tuesday, January 06, 2009 at 10:55 PM
Everyone keeps begging me to set up on FB, and I just can't ... not yet, because I know I'll get sucked in and possibly never get out!
Posted by: Carrie | Tuesday, January 06, 2009 at 10:55 PM
Ooh ooh ooh! Add me add me! Karelle Jones :)
Posted by: Karelle | Tuesday, January 06, 2009 at 10:55 PM
Awesome! You will have a friend request from me by the end of the day!
Posted by: So Not Mom-a-licious | Wednesday, January 07, 2009 at 11:30 AM
I think I'm still in the hit or miss stage. I just can't seem to get hooked on it. I guess that is a good thing though.
Posted by: Jen | Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 01:37 PM
Ah, yes... the flair. I've joined Facebook. But pretty much all I've done is add Jasper flair to my corkboard!
